Ericsson eyes Microsoft IPTV business

Ericsson is reportedly in discussions to buy Microsoft’s TV software unit.

According to a Bloomberg report, which cites unnamed sources, the negotiations are for Microsoft’s MediaRoom IPTV business, which makes software for delivering TV over the web.

The report claimed a deal could be announced in the coming weeks.

The news came as Ericsson concluded its Swedish staff cuts. The firm, which first told its staff about the changes in November, has reduced its operations by 1,399 positions.
