Canal Digital subscriber losses continue slowdown
Telenor-owned Nordic pay TV operator Canal Digital recorded lower subscriber losses in the third quarter than during the corresponding period of 2011. The telco’s Broadcast division also reported a record high EBIDTA margin.
Canal Digital lost 4,000 DTH customers in the three months ending September 2011, compared with a loss of 6,000 a year earlier. The pay TV operator ended the quarter with a total subscriber base of 948,000, meaning it had lost 25,000 in the preceding 12 months.
Total revenues from Telenor’s Broadcast division decreased by 5%, mainly due to the sale of Canal Digital Cable TV in Denmark in October 2011 and delayed card orders from conditional access company Conax.
Total EBITDA increased by 7% and the EBITDA margin increased by four percentage points to 34%, an all-time high.
