HD boosting Tricolor’s subscriber numbers

Russia’s leading pay TV operator Tricolor ended September with 8.55 million subscribers after adding 750,000 during the third quarter.

Tricolor’s CEO Alexander Makarov told local reporters that the creation of a budget HD package had helped the operator beat previous records for subscriber growth set in the second and third quarters of 2011. The package, which launched in August, offers 25 HD and 100 standard definition channels for RUB900 (€22). Makarov said the operator was aiming for over one million HD subscribers by 2013.
