Belgacom takes IPTV platform in-house from Nokia Siemens Networks

Belgian telco Belgacom is planning to become its own IPTV system integrator by acquiring the rights from Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN).

Since the launch of Belgacom TV in 2005, the telco has worked with NSN to build a scalable end-to-end platform integrating various media technologies and software to enable a convergent IPTV offer. The agreement with NSN comprises the rights for Belgacom to further develop the IPTV platform.

The telco said the deal would allow it to quickly respond to customer needs and to release new entertainment products, services and applications on a regular basis.

As part of the planned transaction, approximately 25 NSN employees in Belgium are expected to transfer to Belgacom.
