Vestel to debut Android set-top

Consumer electronics vendor Vestel (Stand Q9) will demo its new Android set-top box with Beesmart middleware for the first time at this week’s ANGA Cable show.

The new set-top box is based on the Android platform, offering various apps available on the operating system. Beesmart’s SDK enables operators to create their own apps and the Beesmart Open API gives access to various levels of middleware, Vestel said.

The set-top also supports Ekioh web browser and operates on Edgeware, Anevia, Espial and Bitband VOD servers.
Hakan Kutlu, deputy general manager at Vestel Foreign Trade, said, “We are pleased to offer Beesmart middleware and companion device solutions that Beenius offer. Hybrid set-top boxes with Beesmart middleware can be customised to include additional CA technologies according to operator’s requirements.’’
