Connected devices help boost iPlayer performance

The popularity of iPlayer shows little signs of waning, with video requests for January to April up 21% year-on-year.

There were 140 million video requests in April, compared with  107 million a year earlier, taking the total number of requests for the first four months of 2012 to 573 million.

Internet-connected devices including smart TVs, games consoles and blu-ray players delivered 11% of all requests in April, up 57% on April 2011. Mobile and tablet devices delivered a significant increase in requests, up 94%, with 15% of total programme requests coming from mobiles and tablets in April 2012.
