Sky News referred to UK Crown Prosecution Service

UK-based news channel Sky News has been referred to the UK Crown Prosecution Service, which decides whether criminal charges should be brought in potential criminal cases, according to The Guardian newspaper.

The referral follows the channel showing a Twitter feed that in turn named a crime victim, which is prohibited in the UK in certain cases. Sky News said it had met with police to explain the technical error and inadvertent broadcast of the victim’s name. It added that said name was only onscreen for a fraction of a second and that it immediately apologised to the victim and her family after it realised the error had been made.
