NorDig adds HbbTV to hybrid specification

NorDig, the digital TV standards body for Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Ireland, has added HbbTV to its specifications for hybrid set-top boxes.

HbbTV succeeds MHP, which was previously the chosen API for interactive services, according to a statement from the European Broadcasting Union.

The EBU also said the newly published MPEG DASH specification has been incorporated into the latest revision of HbbTV, version 1.5.

HbbTV services are now on air in Germany, France, Austria and Spain, while trial services are taking place in the Netherlands and Switzerland. Earlier this week, the France Télévisions channel France 5 launched its first HbbTV service, adding hybrid content to C dans l’air.
