Al Jazeera to launch new sports channel

Al Jazeera Media Network is launching a sports news channel across the Middle East next month. The channel, which will be distributed via satellite platform Nilesat, will launch on November 1. This coincides with the 15th anniversary of Al Jazeera.

The channel will cover all major international sports events and tournaments including the English, Spanish, Italian and French soccer leagues as well as basketball, athletics, tennis and motorsports. It will be headed up by managing director Mohammad Ammour. 
The launch channel was announced by director general of Al Jazeera Media Network, Sheikh Ahmad bin Jassim Al Thani (pictured) and Nasser Al-Khlaifi, the manager of Al Jazeera Sports.
