Sweden to launch HD DTT in November

Teracom-owned Swedish digital-terrestrial TV operator Boxer will launch HDTV broadcasts on November 1.

Swedish public broadcaster SVT’s two main channels will launch in HD, to be joined by a number of Boxer’s pay-TV channels.
The channels will initially be available via 17 repeater stations, with a further 16 to begin transmitting by the end of the year, taking HD coverage to about 70% of Swedish households. Transmissions will be in the DVB-T2 format pioneered in the UK, using MPEG-4 compression. DVB-T2 set-tops were launched in the Swedish market in September.
