Telekom aims to be German pay-TV leader

Deutsche Telekom has restated its ambition to emerge as the market leader in German pay-TV following a positive quarter for its Entertain IPTV service.

Connected Entertain customers at the end of the quarter numbered 900,000, with 1.2 million subscriptions sold overall. This was not enough to prevent a drop in its fixed-line base of 400,000 thanks to competition from cable, alternative carriers and mobile. However, Telekom’s retail broadband base grew by 200,000 in the quarter to 11.7 million. Fixed-line revenue fell by 4.1% to €4.5bn.

The operator said it planned to develop its three-screen and connected home activities, delivering non-device specific mobile services to TVs and PCs.
