Eutelsat strikes deal with Qatar for new satellite

Satellite operator Eutelsat and Qatar state-run information technology organisation ictQatar have formed a partnership to invest in and operate a new high-capacity satellite at the 25.5° East position to serve the Middle East and North Africa.

The satellite, to be launched in 2012, will deliver Ku-band and Ka-band capacity. Eutelsat currently operates its Eurobird 2 satellite at the 25.5° East position.

Qatar will create a new organization to cover its activities from the position called Es’hail.
