Meo passes half million pay-TV subs

Portugal Telcom’s pay-TV service Meo nearly doubled its subscriber base last year, reaching a total of 581,000 at the end of December, up 89.2% year-on-year.

Over 50% of Meo subscribers have paid for video-on-demand content to-date, up 11% on 2008, consuming on average 2.5 movies per month. Retail revenues stood at €244m for the fourth quarter, a 3.9% increase year-on-year.

The telco added 152,000 ADSL subs during the year, giving it a total of 862,000 at the end of December.

Operating revenue from Portugal Telecom’s wireline business reached €1.95bn for the full year, contributing to total revenue of €6.8bn for the year. EBITDA was €2.5bn.
