Eutelsat to carry new Angola DTH service

Satellite operator Eutelsat is to broadcast the new Zon Multimédia-backed DTH service for Angola, Zap.

Upstar Comunicações, a joint-venture between Portugal’s Zon and Angola-based Socip, owned by local entrepreneur Isabel Dos Santos, has given the Paris-based satellite operator a five-year contract for the lease of five Ku-band transponders on the southern Africa beam of the W7 satellite, which began operation in January.

Zap will offer a Max package of 50 channels and a Premium Package of 80 channels, with a mix of channels featuring series, films, music, kids, news, sport and documentary programming.

Content will be uplinked from Luanda in Angola and Vendas Novas in Portugal and encrypted in Nagravision. The service will be delivered in MPEG-4 and DVB-S2.
