PT gives up on pay-DTT

Portugal Telecom is not planning to launch a pay service on digital terrestrial television (DTT).

The telco had until the end of January to start operating the platform of pay channels. However, it did not launch a service and says that it has no plans to do so. The operator said that it does not believe the current conditions make such a service viable.

Portugal Telecom is now in negotiations with telecoms regulator Anacom to allow commercial free-to-air broadcasters including RTP, SIC and TVI to launch high definition channels on this part of the DTT service.
