Eutelsat Hot Bird winners announced

China’s international channel CCTV 9, Russia’s Vesti and Italy’s TivuSAT each won a special award at this year’s Eutelsat’s Hot Bird awards ceremony.

The event, held in Venice on November 20, celebrated the success of thematic satellite channels, with over 150 channels entering the competition. The people’s choice award went to Hungary’s Duna Televsion, with other wins for Italy’s SkySports24 (Sports), Sky THG24 (News Excellence) and Yes Italia (National Window), along with the UK’s BBC Persian (News) and M-Net Action (Fiction).

The HDTV award went to HD Suisse of Switzerland, while Russia saw wins for TV Nanny (Children’s), Zakon-TV (Culture/Education) and Vremya (Documentaries). Polish channel Wojna i Pokoj won the Cinema award, with Germany’s Body in Balance scooping the Lifestyle award and France’s Trace Tropical taking the Music award.
