BSkyB and Mediaset in the frame for Digital Plus

UK pay-TV provider BSkyB and Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset are both interested in teaming up with Telefónica to mount a bid for Prisa-owned Spanish pay-TV platform Digital Plus, according to local press.

According to the ABC newspaper, BSkyB plans to initiate talks with the telco imminently, with Mediaset expected to follow. The reports follow recent comments by Telefónica deputy director-general Julio Linares that the group would be interested in investing in Digital Plus together with a partner, following the collapse of talks between Prisa and rival commercial broadcaster Mediapro.
