AXN to join Spanish pay-DTT platform

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s entertainment channel AXN is to join Spain’s Dahlia pay-TV platform following last week’s approval of pay services on DTT by the Spanish government.

AXN will occupy one of Veo Televisión’s positions on the platform. Dahlia TV will offer a basic package of channels, including AXN, for €8 a month. The three-year deal with SPE is seen as a significant boost to the platform.

Spanish broadcaster La Sexta is also moving ahead with the launch of football channel Gol TV on the digital-terrestrial platform.

Last week’s government approval has continued to attract criticism, with Spanish IT and communications industry body AETIC accusing the government of undue haste in approving the launch of pay-TV services before decisions were taken on technical standards for the platform, leaving pay operators to develop closed systems.
