Iliad adds 200,000 Free subs

French internet service provider and IPTV operator Iliad ended June with 4,371,000 ADSL subscribers across its Free and Alice brands, up from 3,134,000 a year earlier, and confirmed a target of five million subs by 2011.

During the first half of the year, Iliad attracted 200,000 new Free subscribers, giving it a total of 3,589,000. Its Alice brand lost 54,000 subs. Revenues for the six months to the end of June were up 40% year-on-year to €969.8m.

While announcing its quarterly results, Iliad also revealed its intention to bid for France’s fourth mobile phone licence. Iliad plans to enter the French mobile market, which it said was worth €22bn a year, using its Free brand.  It said it would  rely on its “latest-generation network, its capacity for innovation, its commercial expertise and its 4.4 million-strong subscriber base to develop innovative products at attractive prices.”
